The village of Yungaburra is surrounded by spectacular countryside, which has been influenced and shaped by many, now extinct, volcanoes. The landscape is stunning, with outstandingly beautiful natural attractions: crater lakes, waterfalls and World Heritage rain forest. This tranquil and picturesque village is situated 720 metres (2400 feet) above sea level. This ideal holiday destination is cooler than the coastal area during summer, and in winter, the mild days and refreshing nights are an excuse to enjoy a crackling log fire.

Peterson’s Creek meanders past the village and is a haven for wildlife. Watch for platypus, tree-kangaroos, wallabies and a large variety of birds (view map). Yungaburra, the  heart of the Tablelands, was established in 1890, and is listed by the National Trust of Queensland with many of the original buildings still in use. Yungaburra is easily accessible from Cairns, being just over one hour traveling via the Gillies Range or drive from Cairns’ northern beaches via the Kuranda Range.
